Don’t just whine, lodge petition to Election Commision, Daud tells PKR

KUCHING:  Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman told PKR to write a petition to the Election Commission (EC) if it wants to complain about alleged irregularities that occurred in the just-concluded state election.
The Tupong assemblyman and PBB vice president said putting up a formal complaint was the proper thing to do instead of making public outbursts.
He claimed that PKR’s baseless allegations were calculated to distance people from the BN fold.
“We are a democratic country. We have laws and PKR should act according to the law and send a petition to the EC instead of putting up blames and making baseless allegations.
“If they really believe that such claims are true, then file petitions to the EC,” he said when contacted by Utusan Borneo yesterday.
Daud, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs), was commenting on a report where PKR’s state Women chief Nurhanim Moksen claimed that the said irregularities (during polling day) had contributed to PKR’s losses.
“Intimidation and money politics were among the contributing factors to PKR’s losses. We may have to lodge police reports over these allegations,” Nurhamin told a press conference on Friday.
On a related note, Daud advised the party to go to the ground and interview the whole people in the affected constituencies and not just listen to their own supporters.
“As far as I’m concerned, BN does not condone such politics. We run our campaign in a fair and clean manner. Whichever candidates the voters voted for are entirely their rights,” he stressed.
Taking his own constituency of Tupong as an example, Daud highlighted that his opponent Baharuddin Mokhsen (PKR) had himself expressed his appreciation that voters had duly exercised their rights during polling day.
“Don’t tell me now that it’s all said and done, suddenly they are not satisfied and start to make baseless accusations,” he continued.
In the 10th state election, Daud defeated Baharuddin in a straight fight with a 4,551 vote majority. Daud received 8,304 votes while Baharuddin, 3,753 votes
