KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Haji Daud Abdul Rahman said it was not surprising to see the opposition ‘busy’ in the run-up to election while it is the Barisan Nasional government that is doing all the work for the people.
He said the opposition’s tactic of using sensitive issues to run down the ruling government was an old and ‘overdue’ method of campaigning.
“All they (the opposition) can do is talk and criticise the government. But what services have they done for the people in the last five years? It is the BN government that has been doing all the work,” he said when met at his office in Petra Jaya here yesterday after receiving two cheques for RM45,000 each in business tithe from AmIslamic Bank. The money is meant for Laila Taib Welfare Complex in Kuching and Hamidah Welfare Complex in Miri.
Daud added: “The BN works round the clock to provide development and assistance to the people. The oppositions, on the other hand, only appear in the run-up to elections.
“As usual, the oppositions would try any means they could come up with to provoke the people without thinking of the consequences they could cause such as dividing the people.
“We a re f o r tunat e b e c ause Sarawakians are a wise lot.They are not easily fooled by the opposition’s tactics.
This is proven in each election whereby the BN has always won by more than two-thirds majority.” When asked of his plan if he were renominated and then re-elected in his Tupong seat, Daud said infrastructure development such as roads would be given priority.
“Squatter problem is almost a nonissue in the constituency, so we can concentrate on infrastructure development,” he said.
Also present at the function yesterday were AmBank Regional Manager Simon Su Hiong Tiing and its Kuching Area Sales Manager Rahmatullah Dahrawi Edrus.
At the same ceremony, Daud also received a RM10,000 cheque from Lembaga Amanah Khairat Masjid Bandar Kuching for the construction of a mosque in Matang. The cheque was presented by its Deputy Chairman Shaik Alawuden.
Haji Abdul Wahab Daud (secretary) and Mohamad Jahabar Abdul Jaleel (board member) were also present
